SACRAMENTAL POLICIES AND REQUIREMENTS
We, The Christian Community, are called to celebrate our sacramental life in ritual. Although each person comes to Jesus in a mysterious and personal way, our experience of faith is a gift we share with others. Sacraments are God‘s gifts to us.. Through the sacraments we come to celebrate the person of God living in our community. The personality of God is seen in acceptance and welcoming (Baptism), becoming at one with God (Eucharist), forgiving and forgetting (Reconciliation), the celebration of adulthood (Confirmation), the union of a couple (Marriage), men called to a sacred life (Holy Orders) and healing (Anointing of the Sick). All these sacraments are celebrated in the context of community and Church.
The Sacramental Community has the responsibility to understand the meaning of each Sacrament, and to insure that all who come to celebrate the sacraments have an appreciation of the sacraments. The Community then, must come to an understanding of what the sacraments are and how they fit into the life of the church. We do this through education as well as experience. The Christian Formation Program and the Catholic School are excellent and meaningful channels through which the intellectual and experiential approach to sacraments are explored. The child is given materials and experiences in Community both before, during and after the actual first celebration of the Sacraments. The family, the initial and primary community of the child, should be involved in as much of the preparation as possible.
Because we, the Community of believers, are committed to each child and because we belong to a larger community of the Roman Catholic Church, the following policies exist to help each child, coming to the Altar of Christ to have a rich and meaningful sacramental experience in the Church Community.
