"Just Ask Cornelius"

Why can Catholics not choose to be married outside if tastefully done?  I can't understand how a man-made "church" is considered holier than God's own creation!

The term "man-made church" is a dangerous term because it denies the guidance of the Holy Spirit which we just celebrated at Pentecost, the birth of the Church.

The Church is holier than God's own creation because it is an extension of His creation through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.  2000 years of history has given the Church the experience to make the decisions it has made.

I presume you are asking why we don't have outdoor weddings.  It is because none of the sacraments are celebrated outdoors as a norm.  The building represents the faith community where we come together to celebrate what God has done for us through Jesus.

What kind of a reaction would we get if we said we were closing St. Andrew's Church and saving a whole lot of expenses and we will have weekend Masses iun the corn field.  What about inclement weather?  Can one guarantee the "perfect" day for an outdoor wedding.

Sacraments in the past were only celebrated outside because there was no church yet built.  the building is a sacred consecrated, set aside for God place where sacraments take place from generation to generation and where people go back to and remember those sacred parts of their life.  This is why it really becomes an emotional thing when a church is remodeled, moved or closed.

I have been asked to have a wedding on a Ferris wheel, house boat, flower garden, nudist colony, barn and on a beach.  Although these may be all part of God's creation, they are not set aside as sacred places to celebrate His sacraments.
